Password Managers

Published by Nick on

One of the biggest issues in cyber security is passwords. We need a secure way to log into accounts, but we also need to remember our credentials. However, easily remembered credentials aren’t usually strong enough to be secure. If you aren’t great at recalling passwords, consider using a password manager.

These applications provide a database for storing your login information; they even have useful features to reset passwords or check the security level of your current passwords. Ideally, you should have a different password for every account. However, remembering that many passwords is near impossible, so people tend to use the same password or passwords for multiple accounts. When a hacker gets the password to one account, they then have access to all accounts sharing that password.

Password managers can sync between your computer, phone, and other electronic devices, the most common tools you use to access your accounts. You only need one master password to access your vault of passwords. We recommend using a strong passphrase that’s difficult for others to guess. A passphrase is a randomized string of words and numbers such as “rippling37Numbers13Saltiest”; you should develop a method to remember at least one passphrase to ensure your password vault is secure. Adding multi-factor authentication to your vault provides yet another layer of security.

This database method of storing passwords helps you stay organized and secure. We personally have been using a password managers for years. We can better understand the scope of our online accounts because we see them all in one place. Each time we add a new password to one of our vaults, we gain confidence in our security and know our credentials won’t be forgotten because they’re being stored with the information for all our other accounts.
